US M9 Gen 1 LANCAY General Cutlery Bayonet
Lan-Cay received it’s first contract for 30,500 M9 bayonets on 3/31/92 from the U.S. Army with an additional 21,500 bayonets added during the contract. In an effort to quickly supply the Army with new M9 bayonets after Desert Storm, Lan-Cay turned to General Cutlery as a sub-contractor to provide near completed blades for assembly at the Lan-Cay facility. All General Cutlery produced blades are easily identified as they are stamped on the ricasso "M9 / LANCAY / USA" in block letters of equal size. This form of marking was used only on the General Cutlery made blades and was never used again. This piece has the correct unmarked pommel (no LanCay marking), screw driver at the end of the cutter plate on the scabbard and 1992 dated fastex connector. Green waffle style handle. Fullered blade with in/out markings and sharpening. Four slot scabbard with cracked sharpening stone with pouch. General Cutlery assembled M9 bayonets are extremely rare with only about 300 units made. Rarity: R3+ Condition: VG+ Price: $950 |
US M9 LanCay Bayonet - Diemarco/Dutch Contract
At the end of 1997, BUCK decided to put an end to the production of the M9 bayonet. For the Holland contract the bayonet was marked KL with a 5 digit number on the ricasso. Lan-Cay from Carrollton KY was willing to take over the production and supply obligations of the Dutch contract. They offered the so-called 3rd generation ‘Army Product Improved’ (PI) model M9. But this model was rejected by the Dutch, mostly because of the scabbard which differs from the BUCK version. After much bickering Lan-Cay agreed to adapt the scabbard in order to produce a scabbard along the old specifications of the 1st generation, i.e. the earlier Phrobis patent model. This with the hope for interesting repeat orders in the future. The first Dutch purchase order for this Lan-Cay model was for a mere 150 pieces bayonets with scabbards. No special marking or numbering was required. For this lot, the actual Lan-Cay scabbards had to be rebuilt in accordance with the older (BUCK) specifications. This meant a laborious and very costly conversion, since also the integrated sharpening plate with its covering strap with press stud had to be incorporated, as well as a second hilt securing strap with press stud. In other words a complete rebuilt of the plastic scabbard, in order to make it compatible with the former BUCK models. Also the detachable accessory pouch had to be part of the supply, although this item was no longer an actual accessory. So in all, one could speak of practically ‘hand-made’ scabbards, instead of a run of the mill product. The newer P.I. (Product Improved) execution of the M9 bayonet itself, which means among other things a blade with a straight non-stepped back and a shorter stretch of saw teeth, and no fuller in the obverse side of the blade, was accepted by the Dutch without comment. All very costly affair for Lan-Cay Inc., this initial Dutch order in 1998/1999. And apart from a few extra pieces, this was all it would be for Lan-Cay with Dutch M9’s. But with that an unique Dutch Lan-Cay ‘multi-functional combat knife’ as it was called officially in Holland. The Fastex is dated 1998. The Dutch order was for only 150 bayonets. Rarity: R3+ Condition: Exc Price: $1250 |

The two slot scabbard with no sharpening stone is marked US and the Fastex is dated 1998. Only less than 100 of this model were made. A LanCay M9 Utility model was sold for the commercial market in the 1995-2002 timeframe for only a short period of time when only Buck was allowed to sell M9 commercial Bayonets in the USA and overseas. Hence the Bayonet and scabbard are without a manufacturer's markings. The obverse of the black oxide blade (with green or black handle & scabbard) is marked M9 over UTILITY. The reverse is marked with a large 'U.S.' It comes with the correct scabbard marked U.S. above the cutting plate with or without a sharpening stone and Fastex dated '95. Only about 800 of these green models were made. In 2002, Lan-Cay was approached by a purchaser to make less than 100 sets with black handles and scabbards with the blades sand blasted gray and marked 'M9 over UTILITY' with a black scabbard marked 'US' with no sharpening stones and Fastex dated '02' (or earlier dates to use up old Nexus clips) and these are quite rare. Each model was marked on the underside of the crossguard 'UC' for ultra carbon steel or 'DS' for diamond steel for the type of blade used. These three bayonet designs were all accompanied by the Ontario "stealth" scabbard (an Ontario patent), with its traditional style webbing. The webbing was fitted with a single MOLLE compatible web strap, with a pull-on-the-dot snap. Also on the back of each scabbard was a white-colored, fine-grade, sharpening stick. Only about 50 of each model (few hundred made in total for all 6 variations) were produced. Rarity: R3+ Condition: Exc Price: $1000 |
US USMC OKC 3S Field Trials Bayonet
A field trials test model was made with a threaded tang/pommel which is marked 'Combat over U.S.M.C.' on the left side of the ricasso and 'Ontario over USA' on the right side. Came w/attached canvas belt frog and back of scabbard marked "The Ontario Knife Company" w/www.ontarioknife.com which commands a premium (R3). It is a 1 of 500 USMC Ontario Knife OKC3S first fielded prototype bayonet. This prototype is a bridge design, between the M9 bayonet and what would become the OKC3S USMC standard bayonet. This bayonet can be disassembled like an M9, the handle is hard rather than soft like the OKC3S, the scabbard is lighter and simpler than the OKC3S. Prior to the OKC3S design being finalized, the Marines ordered 500 of this prototype for field trials with operational units. These went to deployed units in Afghanistan and Iraq for actual combat use to determine what changes were needed in the production bayonets. This field feedback resulted in the final OKC3S design using a non removable fixed tang blade, using soft rubber like handle material, and the scabbard incorporating additional straps with a cover for the sharpening rod. Since these were actually used during combat, and most are found well used. Wear overall on the handle, blade and scabbard. Only 500 were made for this trial. Rarity: R3 Condition: VG+ Price: $325 |

Rarity: R2 Condition: Mint in box Price: $225 |
