Here is just one bayonet example of the detailed information you will find in the Reference Section

Australian M9 Bayonet
(Ref1,No.1,page219, Ref3,ABC102,page85)
Rarity: R3
Rifle: F88 rifle (Australian version of Austrian Steyr rifle)
Comments:  Very similar to the US M9 Phrobis / Buck bayonet.  BUCK sold 20,050 bayonets to Australia in the early 90's and is still in use today by SAS and elite infantry units.  The markings are 'BUCK/188/USA' with an Australian broad arrow military proof mark stamped after the '188'.  The scabbard has the normal 'BUCK' marking on the front with a broad arrow mark just below.  A bead blasted finish was contracted for the entire contract of 20,050 M9 bayonets.  This Australian model sells for a premium over the USA model (R3).  Overall length is 311mm with a blade length of 182mm.  The muzzle ring diameter is 22mm.
Price range: $200-$400 usd
three exc sets sold for $302 in 6/09, $283 in 8/10 & $581 in 5/13, three VG+ sets sold for $356 in 2/12, $525 in 6/13 & $416 in 8/14, a VG set sold for $272 in 3/14

Reproduction or Fake Bayonets

Ever since WWII, there have been many attempts to reproduce or fake bayonets for profit.  It is typically the very rare bayonets that typically get reproduced to either help fill collections or to fraud people since it does not make sense to reproduce inexpensive bayonets except for re-enactments or movies (i.e. US 1873 socket bayonet or German 98k bayonet).  When considering the purchase of any rare and expensive bayonet, you need to be aware that it can be reworked, faked or reproduced and not a true authentic piece.  Therefore, it is critical that the serious collector learn as much about the authentic bayonets as possible through reference books or web sites to help know what is real and what is fake.  As in all collectables, know the originals through research and experience.  If it looks too good to be true for the price (rarity, condition and price), it may just be so ... 'caveat emptor' or buyer beware.

Many of the reproduction bayonets found today are mentioned in my Reference Section along with the original bayonets in question (e.g. British bayonets like the 1871 Elcho sawback, 1907 with hooked quillion, 1916 Webley or sten gun, US bayonets like the 1862 Potts, 1917 Remington or 1941 Johnson or German bayonets like the 1898/05 butcher).
